Materials are all laid out, 1095 steel, 416 stainless steel guard stock, stabilized koa wood
from Hawaii and some black spacer material.
Cutting and grinding the profile
The grind is good!
Drilling and countersinking the holes in the tang.  I drill some for the pins in the bolsters and the handle bolts.  The rest
are for general lightening and balance.
Marking the center line all around, then moving to the grinder to taper the tang.  First it gets a hollow down the middle
then flattening out the taper
Now the bolsters are ruffed out and drilled for the pins that will be hammered in later.
Grinding the main bevels everything is turning out pretty well.  Grind is good!
Time to clean everything up prior to heat treating.  Since I am going to quench in water, the prep work is key to success.
Hand rubbed to 220 grit, next it's clay time
